Intel to launch full HD 1080p streaming video service for its new Core 2011 processors
[info]aphrodyt3
Intel Core 2011 Sandy Bridge DRM
Intel will launch a full HD 1080p streaming video service called "Insider" in the first quarter of 2011. Deals with Warner Bros and CinemaNow have already been arranged, and it's expected that a very broad library of movies will be available at launch -- and if that wasn't exciting enough, Intel's streaming movies will be made available at the same time as Blu-ray and DVD releases!

It's a rather odd move coming from a chip manufacturer, but when you consider the hardware DRM available on Intel's new line of 'Sandy Bridge' chips, it all begins to make a little more sense. Historically, publishers have been loathe to provide high-quality streaming movies because of piracy concerns, but with hardware security from Intel, such a service becomes feasible.

There's no details on the pricing of Intel's service, but it will surely be in line with Netflix and Hulu. The only problem is, you'll need to buy a laptop or desktop with one of the new Core 2011 processors!

[The service will be branded as "Intel Insider" -- no relation to "Intel Inside", right?]

Kinect hack simulates your skeletal X-ray, lets you peer inside...
[info]aphrodyt3
Kinect magic mirror skeleton
The odd and interesting Kinect hacks keep rolling in, in part thanks to the official driver release from OpenNI, but also because it seems to have tickled the interests of nerds from all walks of life. Today, some researchers from the Technical University of Munich, Germany, have used Kinect to produce a virtual X-ray that allows users to see the skeleton under their skin.

Rather than trying rather lamely to describe the hack, just watch the video after the break. Basically, the developers have taken a 3D CT scan, and then used the Kinect's motion- and depth-sensing capabilities to overlay the CT scan on the user's body. The user can move up and down, rotate and bend, and Kinect successfully keeps up.

Of course, such a system could show a lot more than just bones -- it could just as easily render an X-ray of your skin, or musculature. Integrated with Google Body, the user could leaf through his or her entire anatomy.

T-Mobile's G2: A Flawed Beauty
[info]aphrodyt3
The HTC G2 is the successor to 2008's much ballyhooed HTC G1 (aka the "Google Phone"), the very first Android smartphone released in the United States.
